Maria Lydia Coyazo

February 14, 1928 — December 17, 2014

Maria Lydia Coyazo passed away on Wednesday, December 17th, at Redlands Community Hospital. A lifelong resident of the Redlands area, she was born on February 14, 1928, in Bryn Mawr, to Manuel and Rafaela Rey. She attended Mission School and Redlands Junior and Senior High Schools, graduating in 1946.
Lydia was united in marriage to Frank Coyazo on April 12, 1947, and they raised four sons together. Lydia was a fabulous cook and an avid reader. She was a talented amateur painter and a lover of music of all kinds. She and Frank loved dogs. Lydia was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Loma Linda, and in her younger years she taught catechism at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Redlands.
Lydia's love for children and generous spirit led her to volunteer for the Redlands School District, and this led to her being offered a position as a classroom aide at Lugonia School. She was a valued member of the school staff for 24 years, and was beloved by generations of students. For many years, she ran the school's computer lab. Her work at Lugonia School encouraged Lydia to continue her education, and she received her AA degree from Crafton Hills College in 1986 at age 58.
Lydia was the last of her family, proceeded in death by her mother and father, and her three sisters, Florence Trujillo, Geraldine Valencia, and Frances Rivera, as well as her beloved daughter-in-law, Patricia (wife of son Steven). She is remembered by many friends and former students, and many family members of the Coyazo, Rey, and Landeros families and extended family too numerous to name. She loved you all. She is survived by the love of her life and her husband of 68 years, Frank Coyazo; her four sons Frank II (wife Rosalie), James, Steven, and Joseph (wife Sheila); four grandsons Joseph, Steven Jr., Matthew, and Frank III; and four great-granddaughters Leilani, Alyssa, Sarah, and Ember.
A visitation and rosary will be held at Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands, California, on Monday, December 22, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm (rosary at 7:00pm).
