Marilyn Ann Prihoda died December 27, 2018 at Plymouth Village Health Center after a long-term illness. She was born July 31, 1932 in Chicago IL, the daughter of Irma (Ubl) & Otto George Prihoda. They lived together in the suburbs of Chicago until moving to Yucaipa California in 1966. ?
Marilyn graduated from Morton High School in Cicero IL in 1950 and performed secretarial work at the Jewel Tea Company and Ceco Corporation in Illinois. In California, Marilyn worked at the San Bernardino aerospace center before coming to Johnston College in Redlands.
Marilyn was the ultimate secretary known for her attention to protocol and detail. She was ethical, extremely reliable, and honored expectations of confidentiality. Always available with an ear, Marilyn was called ‘mom’ by many of the students and occasionally a faculty member. Upon her retirement a conference room in the department was named in her honor and the plaque remains on the wall to this day. It was here at the University where Marilyn met and maintained long lasting and deep friendships with faculty, staff and students.
In her retirement years Marilyn was frequently seen on campus attending events at Johnston College (as she had long standing relationships with many of the original faculty members and their wives), at Com Dis events, and with gatherings of the Faculty and Staff Retirement Association.
In 2016 as her health declined Marilyn moved to Plymouth Village in Redlands where she received excellent care and companionship, especially from neighbor Helen Gessinger who became her close friend.
Marilyn enjoyed singing and was once a member of the Sweet Adelines. She loved chocolate, ice cream, cocker spaniels and traveling often until injury and illness prevented that activity.
Marilyn is survived by her brother Dr. John Prihoda of Portland Oregon and his wife Kay, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins living across the nation.
In accord with her wishes, a brief gravesite service will be held at the Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Redlands, CA, on January 7, 2019 at 12:30 PM.
Memorial donations can be made in Marilyn's name to an organization of your choice.
