Mark F. Vanderschel of Ramona, California died Monday, April 29, 2013. Born on August 30, 1949 in Boise, Idaho, Mark moved with his family to Cupertino, California, then to Tracy, California, graduating from Tracy High. Mark proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, stationed on the aircraft carrier, USS Kearsarge, during the Vietnam War. A resident of San Diego County for more than thirty years, he worked in the heavy equipment industry, most recently as corporate service manager for DeNardi Machinery. Mark was a passionate golfer, avid NASCAR fan and nightly armchair Jeopardy participant. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Ruth (n e Glimp) Vanderschel. He is survived by his daughter Summer Jordan (Eric Knox) and grandchildren Taylor and Isabella, of Santa Cruz California; his brother Kirk Vanderschel (Judith Anderson) of Upland, California; sister Cynthia Vanderschel of Los Angeles, California; niece Jennifer Kleier Vanderschel of Vista, California and niece Layne Vanderschel Brown of Los Angeles, California. Services will be held on Friday, June 7th, 2013 at 2:00pm at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Drive, San Diego, CA 92166. Family under the care of Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel, Redlands, CA. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers: Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org), St. Jude Children s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (aspca.org).
