Redlands Community Hospital Volunteer

Died on April 30, 2023 at her Redlands home surrounded by her family. She was 85.

Born June 7. 1932 in Norristown, PA. to Jacob M. and Louise C. Schirk. (Preceded in death, 1973 & 1992).

At the age of 7, Marlene moved with her family to California in 1944, where they settled in San Bernardino.

She was a “Jobs Daughter” through-out her school years and Graduated from San Bernardino High School.

While attending a “Bethany Reformed Church of Redlands” picnic, she met Robert Dale Rienstra of Redlands, (preceded her in death in 1996), who was a Hot Shot with the US Forest Service Del Rosa Hot Shots at the time. They were married in November of 1956 and soon started a family, where they raised their 3 sons, Robert (Chuck) Charles Rienstra, Gregory Allan Rienstra and Kenneth Glenn Rienstra, and lived in North Del Rosa, San Bernardino, CA.

As her children grew, Marlene became an Auxiliary Volunteer (Pink Lady) at “Redlands Community Hospital”, where she served for over 30 years.


She was very involved with the church all through life, singing in and directing the church choirs.

She was most recently a member of the “First Congregational Church of Redlands” for more than 30 years.

Marlene is survived by: her 3 sons, Robert C. and wife Evelyn, Gregory A. and wife Donna and Kenneth G. Rienstra. Her 2 Grandchildren, Justin and Erika Rienstra.


Marlene was laid to rest with her husband Robert of 40 years at “Hermosa Gardens Cemetery” in Colton, CA. There was a small private graveside service given where the eulogy was presented by Dr. Lowell Linden of Redlands, CA.
