Martha Nan Handzel

Martha Nan Handzel 81 of Redlands passed away on Feb. 25, 2015. Martha was born in Wedowee, AL on July 24, 1933 to Virginia Hodnett Lee Walker and John Thomas Lee . She graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, AL in 1951, and the University of Alabama School of Nursing in 1955. After graduating, she was appointed to the faculty at the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Nursing where she was the youngest member of the faculty at the time. Martha worked at the Dermatology Medical Group in Redlands for many years and and enjoyed camping and fishing. She was also a proud member of the Heritage Optimist Club of Redlands and Yucaipa Christian Church. Martha is survived by her brother Thomas J. "Jack" Lee, her sons Jim and Chris Handzel, her daughter Catherine Davis, and her grandchildren Amanda Handzel, Brooke Handzel, Austin Davis and Zachary Davis. She was predeceased in death by both of her parents and her husband, James R. Handzel. Memorial services will be held at Emerson Bartlett Mortuary on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
