Mary Jane Roberts

Mary Jane Roberts, 85, of Yucaipa, California died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in Redlands Community Hospital after a long battle with COPD and acute pneumonia. Born in Curwinsville, Pennsylvania, April 19, 1925, to Byron and LaRue Shaw, Mary Jane was a dedicated nursing student. She graduated from The School of Nursing: West Penn Hospital in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 1947, where she cared for and fell in love with her husband of 58 years, Frank Roberts, a WWII veteran returning home from overseas. She worked at several hospitals during her 40 year tenure as an RN and after coming to California (by way of Middlesex, New Jersey) in 1975, including Long Beach Memorial Hospital, the Veterans Hospital, and Downy Hospital until retiring at the age of 62. Mary Jane was a talented artist who enjoyed toll painting, crocheting, and quilting as a member of the Oak Glen Quilting Group. She was also a gourmet cook, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother known for her jovial sense of humor and calm temperament. Mary Jane is survived by her daughter, Robyn, and one of twin sons Michael (her late son Mark Roberts passed in September of 2009); her sister Virginia and her two children, Eric, wife Tracy and daughter Casey, and Scott, wife Susan and son Ryan; brother Larry Shaw and family and sister Carol Kathman and family; her grandchildren Michelle Roberts and her husband Adam and their daughter Nora, Devane Wright and her husband Joseph and their two children, Landon and Estella and grandson, Addison Roberts. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 1:15pm at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA Staging Area #2.
