Mercedes Maria Gomez Soqui August 25, 1929 June 19, 2014 Mercedes Maria Gomez Soqui was born in Durango, Mexico. She went to her eternal rest following a long illness on June 19th. She was the second youngest of twelve children and immigrated to the United States in the 1957 and lived in El Paso, Texas before moving to the Mission District of San Francisco, where she worked as a receptionist and translator at Mount Zion Medical Center at the Claire Saroni Zellerbach Tumor Institute. She moved to Escondido, California in 1972 and worked making optical lens molds until she retired. She relocated again to Redlands, Yucaipa and Beaumont area A lifelong Catholic, she was a Eucharistic Minister and Catechism instructor, and was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Yucaipa She is survived by her two sons; Robert Soqui, of Bethesda, Maryland and William Soqui of Beaumont, California, Three granddaughters, Meghan, Gabriella and Rebecca Soqui of Beaumont, and a grandson, Andrew Hynes of Bethesda. She is also survived by her sister, Gloria Fons of Escondido, and several nieces and nephews. A Holy Rosary and Visitation will take place at Emmerson Bartlett Funeral Home in Yucaipa at 7:00 pm on Thursday June 26th, the Funeral Mass and rite of Christian Burial will take place on Friday June 27th at 9:00 am at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church in Yucaipa followed by a reception and Interment. Families and friends are invited to attend.
