On June 26, 2009, our mother, MERCEDES SORIA RODRIGUEZ, 79, peacefully left us, in her sleep. Arriving from Mexico in 1954, she quickly became an active member of community and church. She accomplished many goals she set for herself, including a teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education at Cal State San Bernardino. She worked as a housekeeper, teacher's aide and teacher for the Redlands Day Nursery, as well as several other preschools in the San Bernardino area, and finally at the YMCA in Redlands. Mercedes was preceded in death by her husband, Prospero, and her grandson, David E. Soria. She leaves behind her nine children, all of Redlands; as well as 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful, patient and kind woman who was beloved by all her family, friends, and those she taught. We will always remember her as a tower of strength, honesty and integrity. Thank you, Mom, for showing us the way. We Love You. We will see you soon. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2009, from 5 to 8 P.M., with Rosary beginning at 6 P.M. at Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel, (Redlands). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 A.M. at The Holy Name of Jesus Parish (Olive Avenue location). Immediately following, the Burial will be held at Hillside Memorial Park. John 5:28 The family is under the care of Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel (Redlands). If any questions, please contact them at (909) 793-2311.
