Merry-Jo Norwood

Merry Jo Norwood, nee Merry Jo Priester, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024. She was born in Keithville, LA. She was the daughter of May Chiles Priester of Vivian, LA.

Merry Jo was a graduate of Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated with a BA in education.

It was at Westminster College where she met her future husband, Robert Norwood, of Spur, Texas. After graduating from college, they moved to southern California, settling in Redlands, CA, where Merry Jo taught elementary school.

Robert passed on in 1994 leaving Merry Jo a widow for the last thirty years of her life. She continued to teach, ending a 54-year career in 2019.

Merry Jo was an avid reader and advocate of children and education. She was well respected by her peers, friends, and students.

Merry Jo Norwood passed at the home of her sister, Rama Priester, after several months of Hospice care. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Vivian, Louisiana on Monday, July 15th, at 9 am.
