Mildred Ashburn Furney, 99, died March 1, 2013 at her home in Yucaipa. The daughter of Jesse Ralph and Lucy Ashburn, Mildred was born on Aug. 31, 1913 in Morris County, near Kelso, Kansas. Mildred graduated in 1933 from Council Grove High School in Kansas, where she obtained her teaching certificate. On June 6, 1934, Mildred married Cecil C. Furney, the son of Andrew Clark and Willametta Bailey Furney. Mildred and Cecil moved to California with their daughters, Bonita and Shirley in December, 1939. After living a time in Los Angles County, the family settled in Yucaipa where Mildred remained for 68 years. Mildred and Cecil celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary just a short time before Cecil passed away June 17, 1997. She was a master gardener and active in Girl Scouts and the Church of Christ. Her faith and her family were her passion and priority. Mildred is survived by her daughters Bonnie J. Lee of Yucaipa and Shirley L. Miller of Plymouth, Florida; nine grand children, 17 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. Graveside services were held March 6 at Desert Lawn Cemetery.
