Ned L. Lieutenant Colonel Coyl

Lieutenant Colonel Ned L. Coyl, born May 18, 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on December 11, 1992, after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physician Assistant. Prior to his commission he had completed thirteen years as an enlisted soldier and as a warrant officer earning the ranks of sergeant and chief warrant officer four. Lieutenant Colonel Coyl's first assignment as a commissioned officer was the 12th Special Forces Group in San Diego, California, where he completed three years while assigned to Charlie Company. Lieutenant Colonel Coyl then transitioned from the US Army Reserve to the National Guard in Utah where he was assigned to the 19th Special Forces Group. Lieutenant Colonel Coyl spent more than thirteen years within the group deploying with the unit to Iraq and Afghanistan participating in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2007 Lieutenant Colonel Coyl transitioned from the National Guard back to the US Army Reserve where he continued to serve with units subordinate to the Special Operations Command. Most recently Lieutenant Colonel Coyl was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with duty in support of the Horn of Africa. When Lieutenant Colonel Coyl was not deployed or participating in Army Reserve or National Guard training, he was employed as a Physician Assistant through several clinics within the southern California region. Lieutenant Colonel Coyl's military and civilian education include a Master's of Science Degree in Physician Assistant from the University of Nebraska; a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Physician Assistant from the University of Oklahoma; Flight Surgeon Primary from the United States Army Academy of Health Sciences at Fort Sam Houston, Texas; and Intermediate Level Education at the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Combat Medical Badge, the Basic Flight Surgeon Badge, the Basic Aviation Badge, and the Parachutist Badge. Lieutenant Colonel Cloyl is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Joy Lynn House; his four wonderful children, Mr. Ned Coyl II, Ms. Starla Coyl, Mrs. Tamara Guzman, and Mr. Scott Coyl; his mother, Ms Virginia Hetrick; his sister Mrs. Linda Dales; nine grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation for friends will be held at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Ave., Redlands, CA 92373 on Thursday February 12, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., additional visitation time will be Friday February 13, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Services will commence on Friday February 13, 2015 at the Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel at 11:00 a.m., Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518, Staging Area #9.
