Osvaldo Rodriguez Sumaya Cosme, Jr. "Wassie" was born aboard Norton Air Force base in San Bernardino, CA. 2nd son to Osvaldo Sr. & Angelina Cosme.
He was raised in Redlands, CA until 1973 when he enlisted into the US Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. During his time in the Air Force, he rapidly rose through the ranks and served in Korea in support of the Cold War. He left active duty to continue service in the US Air Force reserve and continue flight line work as a mechanic with Lockheed Martin Corporation.
In 1980, he met and married Grace Martinez Bamer of Tandag, Philippines during his time in the reserves. He left the private sector to start his lifelong career as a Quality Assurance Specialist with the Defense Contract Management Command (Department of Defense, DoD). In 1981, he & Grace had their first son Javier Osvaldo Cosme, quickly followed by Jacob Michael Cosme in 1982. Wassie & Grace raised Javier & Jacob in Pomona, CA for their childhood before eventually making their final homestead in Rancho Cucamonga, CA in 1995.
After 34 years of military & civilian service to our nation, Osvaldo retired in the summer of 2010. From 1994 through 2010, he was especially recognized by our nations senior leadership for exceptional service as the technical leader of the El Toro, Joint Task Force. During this time, he and a specialized group worked in conjunction with multiple agencies, to include the Department of Justice, as part of the NASA Inspector General's Office. Wassie was a life long learner, having earned his BS in Management in 1994 and an MBA from California Coast University in 1996. Aside from his passions of reading & education, he was a devote citizen. Following his formal education, he spent countless hours working with the City's troubled youth as an associate Probation Officer. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 650 & VFW in Redlands, CA. Following his retirement in 2010, Wassie & Grace followed their true passions of traveling, in a continued exploration of our worlds greatest cities & beaches. Leaving no sand untouched, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family on the beach or by his pool. With family by his side, "Wassie" passed on Aug 25, 2015.
He is survived by his wife Grace, of 35 years. Sons, Javier & Jacob. Grandchildren, Xavier & Jaden. Brothers, Norman & Mario. Along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. "Wassie" was a true patriarch and found no greater pleasure on earth than calling himself: Husband, Father, & Cosme.
