Paul Lawrence Haislip
1949-2023
Paul “Larry” Haislip passed away on September 4, 2023 after a full life as a husband, father, grandfather and businessman. Paul came from a long time Redlands family. His grandfather, Paul T. Hallum, started Keystone Drug Store in downtown Redlands on State Street in 1932. Paul Haislip worked there until its closing in 1989. Except for a sojourn to Arizona for college, Paul lived in Redlands his entire life for 73 years.
Paul attended Redlands High School graduating with the class of 1968. In High School Paul was a proud member of the Noblemen Car Club and still has his jacket to prove it. A graduate of Northern Arizona University in 1975, Paul earned a Bachelors’ degree in Police Administration and Business. After college he joined the family business, managing operations and working with medical equipment and supplies in particular. After the closing of Keystone Drug Paul spent a number of years managing Keystone Medical Supplies then working for Palm Drug and Medical Supplies. Paul created a several businesses of his own, opening the Sunshine Car Wash and a number of online marketplaces for everything from handcrafted welding tools to medical equipment accessories. During his time working on State Street
Paul was an active member of the Redlands Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Association. During the annual Octoberfest Paul was in charge of the Go-Kart races - and he loved participating in those races as well. He helped with the Redlands Bicycle Classic, the Run Through Redlands as well as many other Redlands events. All his life Paul worked on cars and engines, and was a gifted creative and mechanical person having built several dune buggies, which he ran at Glamis Sand Dunes, and an award winning 1932 Ford Deuce - all within his happy place ”man cave” - his garage workshop. There was always an engine of some kind involved in Paul’s hobbies.
Paul is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jan, and his two children Erin Reiss and her husband Karl and Andrew Haislip and his wife Michelle, along with his beloved granddaughters Kassidy, Delaney and Harper. Paul loved children and was a fantastic grandfather spending hours with his “girls” teaching them skills in his workshop and spending fun times with them whenever
possible. He is also survived by his brother Jim Haislip and wife Desiree of Arizona. He was predeceased by his sister Kathy De vine and his parents Jerry and Betty Haislip.
