Raoul E. Nelson

May 6, 1956 — December 19, 2023

Raoul Nelson was born in Haiti in 1956 to Marie-Lucie Vilgrain and Raoul Nelson Sr. He was the older brother to Sandra Nelson, Peggy Nelson, and Kim Nelson. He spent his earlier years in life living with his maternal grandfather and great-aunt in Haiti. He would later be reunited with his parents in Chile, where he'd grown up as a young boy. After his time in Chile, his family moved to Washington D.C and Raoul pursued an education in Economics. After receiving his bachelor's, he went after his master's in information system technology, moving to Canada. Once he received his Master's, Raoul moved back to Haiti where he met the love of his life, Nadine Ulcena in 1987. In 1992, they got married in New York. They would be apart for a short while as Raoul worked to transfer his life to Florida where he would meet his first child, Sara. After permanently settling down in Florida to be a family man he had his last child, Samantha, in 1996. When his two daughters moved to California he too, soon followed with his wife to be closer to them. Raoul continued to be a loving and devoted family man until the day of his passing on December 19, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

That tells the story of Raoul Nelson’s life, but it doesn't speak about how he'd come home from work exhausted but would take the time to make up bedtime stories to tell his children. Nor how he felt like he didn't cook enough for his family and would try to cook, but his food would come out semi-burnt. Or how he loved hugs and holding his family members tight. How he'd spend late nights talking with his wife as they spoke about their family and their hopes and dreams. How he'd call his family every holiday and birthday and make sure to remember them. Or of the corny jokes he'd tell to bring a smile to his family's faces. How he was skilled in working on computers and how his family members would ask for his help, and he'd help if he could. How he loved watching and reading Sci-Fi's and mysteries. Raoul Nelson was a kind and loving man, brother, husband, and father. He was steadfast, reliable, supportive, and hardworking. But none of these words can fully encapsulate the impact he had. He will be dearly missed. Rest in Peace Raoul Nelson.
