Richard was the most energetic, fun-loving person. From family events, road trips, international
travel to planning a legal function or preparing for trial.
He was the 4th of 5 boys born to his parents. They lived in Loomis, CA until moving to Citrus Heights.
Richard excelled academically and in sports. In high school he was Student Body President, captain of
the football team, and represented his school at Boys' State. Then, on to University of California,
Davis, majoring in Engineering; working for Proctor and Gamble; and law school at McGeorge School
of Law.
Following law school, he and his family moved to San Bernardino where he went to work
for Wilson, Borror and Dunn, eventually becoming a partner. He was so proud to be invited to
join the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) after having the necessary 20 jury trials.
He was past president of the San Bernardino County Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and
the San Bernardino/Riverside Chapter of ABOTA. During his 40 years as an attorney, he was
most happy when in trial or mentoring a young attorney.
He was the backbone of the Free Methodist Church in San Bernardino for many years: teaching
Sunday School and chairman of the board. He was also on the board of Oak Glen Christian
Conference Center, KLRD radio and other organizations proclaiming the name of Christ.
The true joys of his life were his family and friends: his wife, Patty; children, Jennifer (Adams), Janice
married to Nivar Rivera, Jill married to Aaron Brown, Evan married Angela Riley and Stephen will be
marrying Nickie Reichling in February. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Raquel Adams
married to Ryan Salgado who gave us Rowan; Jared Adams married Brittany Ventresca and have
given us Jharyd and Aria; Aric Adams; Angel Rivera and Ilene Rivera; August Brown; and the newest
baby, Elianna Scott, born while Richard was in the hospital. Marshmallow shooters at Christmas,
pumpkin carving for Halloween, Easter egg hunts, camping, road trips--time together playing
games, working on projects in his yard and house and the classic cars.
To honor his passion
for children and his obsessive need to have projects, there will be a memorial children's playground
at Hannah's House/The Blessing Center in Redlands.
