Richard William Griffiths

Richard W. Griffiths died peacefully in his sleep, at home, on March 10th, 2023 at the age of 90. He was the son of Richard and Leola of Ottawa, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rita and Doris.

Richard attended Ottawa High School and pursued an educational career. He received his Ed. D from the College of Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1970.

He was a Professor Emeritus of the College of Education, and a Professor at California State University, San Bernardino. He taught from 1978 until 2005, when he retired.

He is survived by his loving wife, Fances, daughter Vickie and her husband, Bobby, grandchildren Julian and Melody, and great granddaughter, Alexis.

After retirement, Richard and Frances enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was an avid reader. His greatest wish was to give back. He set up the Richard W. Griffiths Science Education Scholarship at the College of Education, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2021, and also gave to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Richard was dearly loved by all who knew him. His memory will live on in our hearts.
