Robert Philip Adkins,” Phil” as he was affectionately called by his family, “Bob” as he was referred to by his wife and many friends was the oldest of three children born to Robert and Virginia Adkins on July 12, 1954 in Redlands , California. Bob attended school in Redlands where he was a member of Cub Scouts Packs 5 and 16 and Boy Scouts Troop 28, Bob was a member of Cahuilla Lodge Order of the Arrow, and the Sea Cadets. He Graduated from Redlands High School in 1973. In 1973 he was accepted to the CSU Maritime Academy in Vallejo California. Bob had a career as an Stationary Engineer/Water Treatment Operator, that included the University of Redlands, Riverside General Hospital, General Dynamics, California Department of Corrections, City of Corona Water Department and lastly, Disneyland Resort in Anaheim , CA.
Bob was active in Cub Scouts Pack 4 in Yucaipa, and Boy Scouts Troop 11 in Redlands as an Assistant Scoutmaster. He was an active member in the Elks Lodge 2389 in Yucaipa, and a member of Yucaipa Christian Church. He was an avid reader, enjoyed geocaching, coffee roasting, hiking, camping, trains, corn mazes, and having fun every day of his life. Bob passed away suddenly while enjoying a weekend backpacking trip with fellow Boy Scout leaders.
In his passing, he leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Melanie and children, Arilynn and Mason Adkins. Also daughter Heather Franklin (Ryan), son Aaron Carvalho, grand-daughters Sydney and Savannah Franklin, all of Riverside, CA; parents Robert E. and Virginia Adkins, sister Karen Lewellyn(William) and brother Steve Adkins, all of Redlands,CA., plus a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins.. He was preceded in death by his nephew Dennis Brown of Redlands.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday November 5, 2014 at Emerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel, between the hours of 4:00 – 7:00 pm. 35208 Yucaipa Blvd, Yucaipa, CA.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday November 6, 2014 at 11:00 am at Yucaipa Christian Church, 12954 Bryant Street, Yucaipa, Ca.
All Boy Scouts, adults and youth are requested to proudly wear their Class A uniforms as a tribute to Bob.
