Ruben Ricardo Alvarez, age 68, passed away unexpectedly at his family home in Redlands, California on March 27, 2024. Ruben was born May 28th, 1955, at Redlands Community Hospital to Salvador Cardenas Alvarez and Maria Luz Vasquez. Ruben had one sister, Virginia Robles, who passed away from cancer on July 5th, 2016.
As a young kid, Ruben would work the orange fields with his father. The hard work taught to him by his parents would help develop his strong work ethic at a young age. He attended Redlands Senior High and would graduate with his high school diploma in 1973. He obtained his associates degree from Crafton Hills/Valley College and would transfer to Cal Poly Pomona to continue his education by being awarded a bachelor’s degree in computer science. After graduating from Cal Poly Pomona, Ruben would move out to Los Angeles to work as an IT specialist for various hospitals.
Ruben would return to his family home after the passing of his mother, Maria Alvarez, in 1999 to help care for his father until he passed away in 2014. He would retire from Keck Medicine of USC medical center in 2023 to begin life as a retiree. Rubens hobbies included collecting and working on classic cars, collecting coins, watching his favorite TV shows and movies, building computers and caring for his cat, Chinchi. Ruben was a devout catholic who would attend services at Sacred Heart in Redlands.
Ruben is survived by his nephew, Isaiah Robles, as well as his childhood friends and his family in law. The Departure comes as a shock to the family, and they appreciate the support at this difficult time. The burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery on May 17th, 2024, at 9:00 AM and a celebration of life immediately after from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
