Ruth Elenor Zeich of Yucaipa passed way on February 21, 2009. She was born in Wausau, Wisconsin on February 13, 1924, and moved to the Los Angeles area in 1929 where she attended several elementary schools. She attened Enterprise Junior High School in Compton, and Compton Junior College. Ruth also attened secretarial school and upon completion she became a secretary at Craig Shipyard during WWII. Later she bacame a secretary for Builtmore Florist and later HDG Inc. which manufactured safety tools for the oil field industry. She was a profiecent Comtometer operator, which was a forerunner to the mechanical calculator. Ruth was a resident of Yucaipa for 53 years. Her hobbies included gardening, weaving, needlepoint, oil painting and playing the organ. On several occasions she won awards from the Yucaipa Valley Garden Club Flower Shows. From late 50s to the mid 70s Ruth attended Faith Luthern Church of Yucaipa wher she became attendance clerck for several years and worked with the Junior Luthern Program. Ruth is suvived by her son Thomas Ziech, daughter Carol Phipps, son-in-law Paul Phipps, grandson John Phipps all from Yucaipa. Grand-daughters, Melody Ziech of Sacramento, California and Christina Blane of Forest Grove, California, and one great-grandson. A memorial service will be held at Unity Church of Yucaipa, 35292 Aveune E on March 14, at 12:15 p.m. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Yucaipa Valley Amimal Placement Society, P.O. Box 199, Yucaipa, CA 92399.
