Ruth N. (Naomi) Sidler

Ruth Ferguson Sidler, age 98, died at her home in Redlands, CA. Ruth Sidler was born in Hermitage Missouri to Mary Lou Mitchell and Thomas Earl Ferguson. When she was 3 years old her family moved to San Bernardino. She was a lifelong resident of San Bernardino, Colton, and Redlands, graduating from Colton High School in 1938.
Ruth Sidler will be remembered as a community activist for teens and young women through her leadership in PTA, League of Women’s Voters, and the YWCA, where she served on the Board of Directors. At San Bernardino Valley College and Pasadena Art Center she studied Floral Arts, became an ardent gardener, and a member of Southern California Flower Design Guilds (Descanso Gardens, Riverside, Redlands Horticultural Society). She received numerous awards in competitions where she combined her love for Japanese Arts, Ikebana, and Contemporary Art design.
Ruth Sidler married W.A. “Art” Sidler on January 31, 1941 at the First Baptist Church of Redlands. They shared a love for traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Her beloved husband died in 1993. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Ruth Sidler and extended family in Redlands, San Diego, and Seattle.
At her request, a private service and interment will take place at Valley View Mausoleum, Montecito Memorial Park, Colton, CA, Emmerson-Bartlett Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Redlands Horticultural Society, P.O. Box 9235 Redlands, CA 92373 for continuing support of gardens and gardeners, large and small, throughout the Redlands area.
