Sally Wirth

Sally Wirth, our beloved wife, mother and friend, slipped away peacefully on Wednesday,
18 April at Redlands Community Hospital. Born Alice Chapman Hardy to Clarence T. and Alice
Hardy, Sally was the youngest of four children. She was preceded in death by her brothers
Richard Hardy, DDS. and Bill Hardy, Senior and by her sister Coramaye Goble.

Sally grew up in the Hardy family home at Center and Fern Avenue. She
attended McKinley Elementary School and graduated from Redlands High School in 1947.
While at RHS, she was an active member of the choral program. In her teen years, she
enjoyed taking music lessons and riding her horse all over "her" part of Redlands with her
friends. She was also a member of Kimberly Juniors of the Contemporary Club.

Sally attended La Verne College where she met Don Wirth on a date that started out as
a prank on another student. She graduated from La Verne in 1951, and in 1952 Sally and Don
were married in Redlands First Congregational Church. The young couple moved to Redlands in
1957 where they moved into the home they occupied all their married lives.

Sally and Don were blessed with two children. Their son Brad, who now lives in
Hamilton, Montana, was born in 1956. Their daughter, Janice Gayl (Jan), was born in 1958.
She is married to Lonn Olfert and lives in Redlands. The couple is blessed with six grandchildren
and six great grandchildren some of whom live in Montana and Colorado.

During their marriage, Sally loved to sew "crazy shirts" for Brad and Don especially for
the holidays. Don recalls that Sally even made (fake) fur vests for them and a fake fur coat for
herself.

Sally Wirth was an eager watercolor artist. She was a member of the Redlands Art
Association and participated in shows there. She was also a former member of the Redlands
Master Chorale. She and Don sang in the choir at Redlands University Methodist Church.

Sally's favorite recreation was camping with her family and friends. She especially liked
camping at Glass Creek with her family. Sally and Don were members of The Cross Roaders,
a group which camped regularly all over Southern California.

Brad Wirth calls his mom a "loving, positive encouraging person" while Don said "she
was the easiest person to live with".

Private family graveside services were held Monday, 23 May, at Hillside Cemetery. A
memorial service will be Saturday 11 June at 11 a.m. at the University United Methodist Church
at 940 East Colton Avenue in Redlands, Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Charge.

The family requests no flowers. Instead, please make donations to the University
Methodist Church because "Sally felt so much at home in the fellowship there."
