Live Legacy

Steven Paul Haughton was born on March 19, 1954 in Lancaster, CA to Chester & Bonnie Haughton. He passed away at the age of 64 on February 4, 2019.

Steven was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a free spirit that enjoyed cooking, vacationing outdoors, and spending time with family. He was known to have a good sense of humour, cracking jokes and making folks laugh - including himself! He had a caring personality, willing to help others in need.

In his younger years as a child, Steven is best described as curious, determined, stubborn, and rebellious. Many might not know this, but he started life with blond hair that changed to brown over time. Early on, Steven was very interested in how things worked. He would take apart anything electronic, but unfortunately not put it back together! Besides taking things apart, he looked for creative ways to hide his peas…. He despised peas! As an early interest, Steven was an Indian Guide with his brother - a program similar to Boy Scouts.

Later in life, Steven was a ‘Dead Head’ and political activist. He had a strong appreciation for music and native american culture. For many years, Steven was a crane operator at Kaiser Steel. In 1982 he met his future wife, Nidia, on a bridge near his home of Lytle Creek while stopping to help her with mechanical car trouble. This was a good example of his caring nature, stopping to help someone in trouble. It is here he began a family of his own having two children over the next few years.

Unfortunately, Steven began to suffer from mental illness in his 20’s and was diagnosed in his 30’s. This caused a lot of hardship within his life affecting many relationships. Even through the hard times, there were many good times. There were many periods of time when he was stable where he enjoyed life, creating happy memories with his loved ones. During the good times, he spent much time with family, volunteered at the library, and helping others when he could.

He is survived by his children Steven D. Haughton and Elizabeth Haughton, grandchildren Joshua and Purcyllis Haughton, sister Kathy Dibel, mom Bonnie Haughton, and 3 nephews.
