Susan Claudette Mchenry

Susan Claudette Phoenix McHenry Susan was gently taken to heaven in her Savior s arms on July25, 2012 at the end of a nearly three year battle with ovarian cancer, while at home with her loving family. Susan was born on August 18th, 1940 at Redlands Community Hospital to her adoring parents, Howard and Mildred Phoenix. She graduated from Redlands High School in 1958 and continued her studies at the University of Arizona, Tucson. She graduated in 1962 with a degree in education. When she was a freshman at Arizona Susan met the love of her life, Carl McHenry of Santa Rosa, California. They were married in Redlands in 1960 and enjoyed 52 years of marriage and family together. Susan loved being a hands-on, devoted, stay at home mom to their four children, Joanne (Clint) McClanahan, of Sacramento, Leslie (Richard) Clayton of Yucaipa, David (Anna) McHenry of Folsom and Gary McHenry of Yucaipa and, later in life, to her youngest grandchild Jessica. After her children were grown Susan got her real estate license and helped manage their Century 21 office and Best Property Management business. Susan loved gardening and raised orchids for several years. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling. She was very fond of playing bridge with her many good friends and husband. Left to cherish her memory in addition to Carl and their four children are 13 grandchildren, her sister Jean(Phoenix) Vanderpool of Redlands and beloved extended family and many dear friends. A Celebration of Susan s life will be held on Saturday, August 4th, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Christian Church, 12954 Bryant Street, Yucaipa, with a luncheon reception to follow. If desired, in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Yucaipa Christian Church. Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel of Yucaipa assisted the family.
