Suzanne Negron, school counselor and kindergarten teacher, passed away August 22, 2018 at the age of 78 after a lengthy struggle with dementia. Suzanne was born in Evansville, Indiana on November 3, 1939. After graduation from Benjamin Bosse High School, she attended Western College for Women which later became part of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Suzanne’s sister Jean also attended Western two years ahead of Suzy. Suzanne majored in home economics and also enjoyed her science classes. During her sophomore year at Western, she met William P. Negron who had gone back to college after three years in the Marine Corps. Bill majored in Physical Education and Art. Bill also played football at Miami. The two married at the end of their senior year. Bill rejoined the Marine Corps as a second lieutenant and they were stationed in Quantico, Virginia where their first son Adam was born in 1962. Suzy earned her teaching credential but did not teach until 22 years later. Bill and Suzy moved from Virginia to California. Their daughter Amy was born in San Diego in 1965. Suzy was a devoted military wife and managed the household and children while her husband was away, often for years at a time. Bill was deployed to Viet Nam twice during his career as an officer. Suzy’s quirky sense of humor and infectious laugh kept her children, neighbors and friends entertained throughout most of her life. The family moved to Virginia while Bill was working at the Pentagon and later back to Oxford where Bill earned his Master’s Degree in child psychology. While living in Oxford the family welcomed a second son named Todd in 1972. While living in Yuma, Arizona, Suzanne worked in retail part time. Due to her flair for fashion and rapport with her customers, she was soon promoted to manager of the Sweetbriar clothing store. Suzy later held jobs with the Department of Public Social Services and the Security Pacific Bank while the family lived in Yucca Valley, California. She began teaching in a private school in Yucca Valley in 1982. After moving to Redlands, California she began her public school career as a kindergarten teacher at Thompson Elementary in San Bernardino in 1986. She earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling in 1991. She was a school counselor for the remainder of her career. Suzy loved to have people over to her home and was most proud of her koi pond and waterfall where she spent many hours. She loved comedies, country music, playing slot machines and Jeopardy! Suzanne was preceded in death by her mother and father James and Marie West. She is survived by her ex-husband Bill (Myrna), her son Adam (Janice), daughter Amy and son Todd. Suzy has six granddaughters: Lindsey, Savannah, Delaney, Mallory, Helena and Sloane.
