Tordis Evelyn Chew

Tordis Evelyn chew passed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 at the age of 101 due to natural causes. Born April 7, 1909, in Chicago, Illinois to Eldrup and Johanne Salveson. She grew up in Chicago and Iowa. She graduated from Newton High School in 1926. She was married to Charles Chew July 19, 1929. Tordis resided with her husband, son, and daughter in Iowa until she and her husband moved to Yucaipa in 1965. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Yucaipa. She was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, Acanthus Lodge in Beaverdale, Iowa. Tordis was a homemaker and was married to Charles for one month short of sixty years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Joanna Koon, of Calimesa and seven grandchildren: Norman Fuller of San Ramon, Lori Koon of Riverside, Jennifer Pierceall-Wright of Yucaipa; Lincoln, Shawn and Amberly Chew of Des Moines, Iowa, and Aaron Chew of Ft. Collins, Colorado. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren. Tordis was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Chew, her son Thomas Chew, and her son-in-law Robert Koon. Memorial services will be held at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Yucaipa on Friday, Feb. 18 at 12 noon. Viewing will precede the service from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon.
