Valdemar Eff passed away on October 5th, 2016. He was a retired Fleet Manager at Fairview Ford in San Bernardino, California with over forty years of service to Ford Motor Company. Val’s knowledge of Ford’s product line (especially trucks) was unsurpassed. He consistently outbid and outsold his competitors by using a very simple strategy: If you respect your customers and treat them fairly, they will reward you with their loyalty. Val applied this same principle to the rest of his life as well. There was a quiet integrity to the man that informed every decision he ever made.
Val was born in Fredericia, Denmark on February 4th, 1930. He lived through the German occupation of Denmark during WWII, where his father, Adolph Eff, was an active member of the Danish resistance movement. He immigrated to the United States in the early 50s and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He earned a business degree from the University of Kentucky on the GI Bill, and settled in the Chicago area where he married, raised a family and began his long career with Ford Motor Company.
He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth Køster Ryland of Riverside, CA; his first wife, Diana Pollock Eff of Portland, OR; his eldest son, Kent Christian Eff, and his wife, Heather Gray Eff, of San Francisco, CA; his second son, Erik Anthon Eff, and his wife, Julia Michele Collins, and their three children, Carmen Marie Eff, Julia Madeleine Eff and Christian Henrik Eff, of Austin, Texas; his third son, Todd Henrik Eff, and his wife, Kelly Ann Eff, and their daughter, Brenda Tanya White, of Redlands, CA; his stepson, Søren Sprogøe Ryland and his partner, Wanda Glover, of Atlanta, GA; his stepson, Christopher Raines Ryland, and his wife, Nila Anand Sathe, and their two daughters, Sonia Anand Sathe Ryland and Anika Køster Sathe Ryland, of Nashville TN. He is also survived by his two great granddaughters, Paige Ann Green and Jamie Lynn Green.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 18th at 11:15am at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that gifts in memory be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
