Viola Ruth Barrington, a long-time resident of Yucaipa, passed away Tuesday, December 22nd of December at her home in Yucaipa.
She was born on January 30, 1930 in the small town of Terry, Montana. Her father owned a dairy farm in the area. At the age of fourteen the family moved to California were Viola graduated from High School in the Lodi area.
One of Viola’s aunt’s became the match maker for Viola and her husband Alvin Paul Barrington of Los Angeles. They were wed April 2, 1957 in Las Vegas. Following their honey moon they resided in Highland Park in Southern. During the early years of their marriage she was a stay at home mother raising their three children, Carol, Mike and Janet who were born between 1959 – 1963.
The life changing event of receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost happened to Viola in 1961. Two years later she was baptized in the Name of Jesus in Pasadena after being witnessed to by her mother-in-law. Then she began to attend the church Pastored by Royce Elms.
Viola and Paul moved to Yucaipa in 1979 and started “Paul’s Auto and Gas on 1226 California Street. He was the mechanic and she handled the bookkeeping. For 18 years they worked together to build a successful business. Two years after his passing she retired and sold the business.
Viola loved reading, cake decorating and shopping for new clothes. But the highlight of her week was her church family and its activities. She was a greatly loved member of Hope Center of Redlands for 37 years.
She is survived by:
Children: Carol Castillo of Arizona, Janet Cochran and Mike Barrington both of Yucaipa.
Two Grandchildren: Brandon & Stacey Cochran.
Three Great grandchildren: Christian, Jazzy & Ethan.
Brother’s: Alvin & Edger Wagner
Sister’s: Nathalia Caldwell, Virginia Tryon & Edna Haworth
A Celebration of her life will be held in her honor @ 12:00 OM Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Hope Center, 1210 Ford St., Redlands, CA. Viewing will be @ 11:00 AM of the same day.
