Virginia Adams

October 15, 1923 — September 28, 2020

Virginia Adams, 96 went home to be with the Lord on September 28, 2020 in Beaumont, California. She survived her husband, Hershel Adams with whom she shared 71 years of marriage.
Born October 15, 1923 in the small town of Goreville, Illinois, Virginia was the only daughter of Henry Clay and Celia Barham and a sister to Loren Barham and Joe Barham.
As a young woman, Virginia moved to Chicago where she worked at the Elgin Company. As providence would have it, her family eventually moved to Southern California. While working at Ft. MacArthur processing new recruits such as Mickey Rooney, she would meet and marry the love of her life, Hershel Adams as they navigated a beautiful love story during WWII.
Virginia married Hershel in 1944 and after the war they lived in San Pedro, Lomita, and Torrance, California. They were blessed with four daughters who would be Virginias pride and joy from which most of her blessings flowed.
Virginia worked part time for J.C. Penney and later as a substitute secretary for the school district. She later became a full-time school secretary at Hickory Elementary School in the Torrance Unified School District.
Virginia was a long-time member of Narbonne Avenue Baptist Church in Lomita, California until she and Hershel retired to Calimesa, CA in 1988 where they became members of Bryant Street Baptist Church in Yucaipa, California. Her heart was with the church where she became the hands and feet of Jesus as she served those around her, as well as singing in the choir and pouring into the lives of friends.
A skilled seamstress, Virginias hands were used to provide her young daughters with clothing and later crafted beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. Meals were her ministry, serving her family and church family with delightful dishes. Virginia also loved to engage in games and was an excellent Scrabble player. She enjoyed travel, Lakers basketball, sermons by Charles Stanley and of course, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Above all, Virginia loved Jesus. It was from Him that she found her purpose and from Him that she was able to so beautifully pour into the lives of those around her. Her sweet, encouraging, thoughtful and kind spirit was cultivated by her love for Christ. Virginia was a steadfast servant to her family and friends, selfless in a most captivating way. She did not live a life of grandeur but of simple obedience, faithful to the God she served. It can be said with utmost certainty, Virginias life and legacy will ripple upon lifes waters for generations to come.
Virginia is survived by her daughters, Linda King (Jerry), Nancy Maxey (Allen), Paula Horton (John), her 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel and her daughter, Cynthia Smith.
