In Remembrance
Wesley Eugene Harty, 92, went to be with his Lord on August 27, 2020. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ella Marie, his brother, John Harty, and parents, Margaret & Clyde Harty. He is survived by his five children, Tim Harty (Shannon), Julie Harty Morris (Barry), Carole Harty Burge (Don), Paul Harty (Jane), and Sara Harty Clouse (John); 16 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Wes...musician, composer, playwright, teacher, missionary, husband, grandfather, dad...was born in Hinsdale, IL, to Clyde and Margaret Harty. The family lived in Nebraska and Wyoming before Wes moved to California to attend college at USC and then Westmont College where he received a bachelors degree in education.
While teaching at Brethren High School in Long Beach, CA, he spent summers on staff at Forest Home Christian Conference Center, where he started a new program for 4-6th graders called Indian Village. This was the beginning of more than 20 years of teaching and ministering in various capacities at Forest Home. But Wes and Ella Marie felt Gods call to overseas missions, serving as pastor and teacher in both The Philippines and Indonesia. Upon his return from overseas, he taught drama and Bible at Arrowhead Christian Academy in Redlands, CA. Never one to sit still, even in his 80s and 90s, Wes led the Sing-a-long Sensations, and taught weekly Bible studies and Sunday School classes.
His love for his Lord, his wife, and his family shone through all that he said and did.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to Mission Aviation Fellowship (https://maf.org/), The San Bernardino City Mission (https://sanbernardinocitymission.org/), or a charity of your choice.
