William P. Thompson

William "Bill" Thompson passed away at age 87 in his sleep on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. He was a resident of Desert Hot Springs, CA. He is survived by his former wife, Patricia Thompson, daughter Susan Thompson, son Douglas Thompson, granddaughters Jennifer, Kadie, Whitney and many extended family members. Bill was born in Detroit on August 11, 1925 to Don & Julia Thompson. After graduating High School & College, he attended the University of Michigan Medical School where he received his MD degree in 1954. He did a residency in Pathology and became the Director of Clinical Laboratories at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He also worked for the Red Cross and retired in Geriatric Medicine. He was a Physician for 58 years. Bill was predeceased by his parents and his beloved son William David Thompson, who died from cancer in 2011. Bill lived for his family and friends and was the organizer of countless reunions. A voracious reader & gifted conversationalist Bill could debate politics, world events, and other matters with anyone. He loved to travel & collected many treasures from various countries. He and his dog Addie were favorites in his neighborhood. Bill was a proud member of a Spiritual Fellowship and recently celebrated 29 years surrounded by those he laughed with, cried with, and loved. He will be missed by family, friends and the hundreds he touched trudging the road of Happy Destiny.
