Zanona Amador Montañez

Zanona “Chena” Montañez was raised in Bryn Mawr, CA by parents Getrudes Gonzalez Amador and
Lorenzo Amador. She had 4 four siblings: Joe, Emma, John and Felix. She married Salvador Montañez on
June 29, 1940 and they were married for 61 years until Salvador’s passing in 2001. Together they raised
8 children, Salvador Jr. (Rachel) Alfred, David (Janice), Larry, Tina (Daniel), Dianna, Gilbert (Sally) and Linda.
Family includes 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Chena enjoyed gardening and also canning fruit. She made tamales with family every year at Christmas
time. She was famous for her fresh tortillas.
She was well liked by friends and neighbors in her community. Chena was a very active member of St.
Joseph the Worker church for many years. The same church that her husband, Salvador help build. She
was active in the Altar and Rosary society, participated in the church fiestas and for years was in charge
of maintaining the cleanliness of the church.
We were all blessed to have had her in our lives as mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, greatgrandmother, great-great grandmother, tia, comadre and friend.
